How To Unearth An Acne Remedy That Truly Works

Monday, November 30th, 2009

A Google search of the internet looking for “acne remedy” will give you thousands of pages with possible results. In addition, one of the pages may have hundreds of suggestions for a cure. Some of the remedies seem very strange but others may actually work.

One suggestion is to massage in oily coconut milk nightly before bedtime. Another suggestion is to use soy sauce on your acne.

One mixture sounded like a good way to keep vampires and members of the opposite sex away. It was to use garlic paste on the face for a natural remedy where there were outbreaks of acne. Another seemed more appropriate as the ingredients for a gourmet meal. There were suggestions for several spices as remedies.

Products containing benzyl peroxide have been shown to be effective at preventing acne and drying up active outbreaks. It is important to dry up the active patches as soon as possible and before they grow larger in order to avoid scarring on the face, neck, chest or back.

Adults with acne should avoid benzyl peroxide containing products, as they tend to dry the skin too much. Instead, adults should choose products that contain salicylic acid. These products are gentler on the adult skin as they are not as drying as those that contain benzyl peroxide.

A new approach to acne is to use an acne light. The light has led lights in both red and blue colors. The patient sits about six inches away from the light for about half an hour per day. The blue light helps to kill the bacteria that inflame the pores and are associated with acne. The red light is to speed healing of inflamed skin. It takes about eight weeks of daily use to see the effects of this product.

Begin by trying the over the counter products or even some home remedies. If none of these treatments works, make an appointment to see a dermatologist. He can help you to lessen the permanent effects of acne.

Acne Remedies

When you have acne, it seems like you can’t get to a remedy fast enough.Sometimes too much choice is as bad as too little choice, how can you know which acne remedy is best for you?

So many remedies, so many results

The truth about acne remedies is that no single remedy will work perfectly for every single person. The main reason why so many different acne remedies exist is the many different ways that people with acne react to treatment. This means that unless luck is on your side, a process of trial and error is inevitable.

If you are looking for a remedy to treat your acne, here are some suggestions for how to work through the process:

1.  Start by focusing on clean skin. With bacteria being an important factor in an outbreak of acne, it makes sense to concentrate on keeping your skin clean.  Establish a routine of washing your face gently each morning and each evening, using a mild face wash formulated for acne-prone skin.

2.Include an anti-acne formula in your routine. If you are fortunate, regularly washing your face may be enough to keep your acne at bay. If not, try a cleanser that contains a stronger anti-acne formula.  Good choices include those containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.  Start with the milder formulations and move up to stronger formulations if necessary.

3.Change to a new anti-acne formula. It is an unfortunate fact of life that not everyone’s skin will react favourably to a particular acne remedy.  If this happens then try switching to a different anti-acne formula; for instance, if you have been using salicylic acid try benzoyl peroxide instead, and if you have been using benzoyl peroxide try salicylic acid instead.

4.Your doctor will know of other available options.  If your acne doesn’t respond to these kinds of over the counter acne remedies, pay a visit to your doctor. An ever expanding range of mild antibiotics, topical creams and gels is available to your doctor to aid you in your battle with acne.  For many people, spending just a few weeks or months using an antibiotic treatment is enough to get their acne under control and allow them to go back to using over the counter acne remedies.

Time, the great healer

The most important thing to remember about acne remedies is that they do take some time to work. You can reasonably expect to see a gradual improvement in your skin in just a few weeks time, 100% clear skin overnight is regrettably unreasonable. It does take time to see an improvement, however sooner or later you will have to decide if you are happy with the improvement. If you are not, try a slightly stronger formula for a few weeks before asking yourself the same question again.

If, however, your acne is quite severe or you have a negative reaction to one or more of the acne remedies you try, by all means don’t delay in going to see your doctor. There are a great many different acne remedies available, which fortunately for acne sufferers, work in a great many different ways. It’s never a good time having acne, but with your doctor’s or dermatologist’s professional advice and enough time for your medication to work, you can look forward to clean, acne-free skin and the benefit of increased self-confidence that comes with it.
